June 2 Strawberry Moon
Tonight I visited our garden plot at Eagle Heights to pull a few weeds and give our small greens and quickly rising root vegetables a much appreciated drink of water. The past two days I have seen gorgeous sunsets from our garden on the hilltop, followed immediately by an almost full moon rise. Tonight I had to wait until dark and then I saw this massive orange moon rise up over the pines and maples. I learned that the June full moon often appears orange since a thick, humid lower atmosphere absorbs more of the moon's blue light in hot months. Various native tribes, including the Ojibwe of Wisconsin refer to the June full moon as the Strawberry Moon.
