June 6 Damsel in the Sun
I was pulling miles of dame's rocket out of the ground this morning at the Wingra Oak Savanna with the Arboretum work party and took a few minutes to inspect insect life nearby. I saw an amazing golden striped fly that shone like chrome as it sunned on a leaf. We also found a small hairy white moth, which was so fuzzy it was hard to find its face. Then I spotted this damselfly through the leaves, its bright blue tail catching my eye. Research tells me there are 46 species of damselfly that lives in Wisconsin and they are separated into three groups: spreadwings, broadwings, and pond damsels. Species name to come!
