January 19 Bagels for Breakfast

Our most common urban mammal, the gray squirrel (Sciuris carolinensis) is certainly pleased with the present January thaw. Next week we get to the start of mating season for several mammals, including red foxes, wolves, beavers, lynxes, and red and gray squirrels. I may have seen a few grays chasing each other yesterday, and wouldn't be surprised if the mating season is already underway given the nice weather. If so, maybe this is a male bringing a delicious present to woo potential mates. Or, more likely, I interrupted its feeding and it took to the trees to get rid of me.
