Not quite a week since their last picture, and these robin
chicks by the nature center are growing feathers quickly! Despite many a
kindergartener pausing to get a glimpse of the three baby birds, the parent
robins seem relatively unconcerned about humans disrupting their babies.
Perhaps they’re too busy looking for worms to worry- as I stopped to check on
the robin with a group of students, one of the adult robins put on a good show
for us as it fed pieces of worm to the three gaping mouths. Baby robins only
spend about 2 weeks in the nest before fledging, so these chicks don’t have
long to go before we see them learn to fly. After that, the parents may have
one or two more broods this summer. No summer vacation for them!
